School
Busing
We
just want to remind the parents that it is extremely
important that they call the center on the days that
their child will not be riding the New Horizons bus.
Having this information ahead of time prevents the bus
drivers from having to wait while a child is located
and allows them to stay on their schedules.
Sick
Kids and Hand Washing
One
of our major concerns in child care is preventing the
spread of illness. There are two major factors which
impact this greatly - preventing ill children from
being in the center, and washing hands. We encourage
all parents to review our policy regarding the return
of children who have been ill and ask everyone to note
that children must be out for 24 hours after symptoms
end. Also, we want to remind everyone that according
to our policies, children who are well enough to be in
the Center are well enough to participate in all
activities, including outside play. Hand washing is
also a matter of great concern. We require the
children to wash their hands before eating, after
outside play, after wiping their noses, before playing
in sand/water tables, etc. We are now asking that
parents also clean their own hands when entering or
exiting the building.
Week
of Free Child Care
New Horizons offers a week of free child care to every family who refers someone to any New Horizons facility.
The new family must have been enrolled for at least two weeks before the credit is applied.
For more details, see the director of your center.
What
Did You Do at School Today?
It
is difficult for young children to recall and describe
what they did during the program day. Children are active
and busy for the entire time, but they sometimes lack the
words to tell others about their activities - or by the
time you pick them up, they have moved on to other things.
Parents, of course, want to know about their child’s
day. Here are a few ideas to keep in mind when asking your
child about his or her activities.
- Keep informed of the class’s planned events so you can
ask specific questions. For example, "Did you get to
go on the nature walk today, or was it too rainy?"
- With most children, avoid general questions like
"What happened at school today?"
- Avoid questions that produce one-word answers.
- Ask specific questions such as
- "Whose ‘sharing time’ was it today? Tell me
about what she/he shared."
- "What was in the art center today?"
-"Tell me about this drawing in your backpack."
Sometimes telling the child a little something about your
own day starts the ball rolling. The child may get the
idea of sharing news and feelings about his or her day.
The Value of
Preschool
At NHCDC, our programs are structured to provide the children with a quality program in which they can develop intellectually, socially, physically, and emotionally.
In order for the children to benefit from this type of program, it is really important for them to be present for all of the activities.
In most cases, the first activity of the day is circle time, followed by learning centers.
While we understand that parents will not always able to do so, we do encourage everyone to have their child to the center by 8:30a.m. so that they do not miss out on any of the learning time.
Other
Reminders
We
want to remind all parents in order to be in compliance with DHS regulations, we must ensure that all medications are stored in the offices.
We ask that parents not place any kind of medication in their child¹s backpacks or in their diaper bags.
This rule is in place to protect the children and we appreciate
everyone's cooperation.
While we will continue to give prescription meds according to our existing policy, we no longer
administer over the counter medications unless we have a notice from a doctor.
We are able to use diaper creams, such as A&D or
Desitin, without a note from the doctor.
Also, every child in the Center is required to have a change of clothing in their cubby. This set needs to be appropriate for the season and must be left at the Center.
Late
Fees
We
want to remind all parents that tuition is due by
close of business on Tuesdays. A late fee of $10
will be added to all payments received after this
time. Any account not paid by Friday may result
in care being denied to the children whom the account
represents.
